Cheerleaders raised a total of $3,131.40 doing a ‘Push-up fundraiser' during the football season.

HS English teacher Tammy Crippen stepped in to coach when cheer coach Abby Sheffield gave birth to her son. “The cheer girls have always done pushups for touchdowns. After the first game, we decided to do a ‘push up pledge’ for every point the football team scored; parents/fans LOVED when the girls did the push ups, so it just seemed like an awesome thing to do,” she said.

Gracie Newton, senior, said since she’s been a cheerleader it’s the most money they’ve raised, “It was a lot to make that much money off something we’ve always done. It’s fairly simple and I hope they continue it next year and throughout the years, because it’s very easy.”

Crippen said the team total number of push-ups was 732, “During practice each girl was given five minutes to do as many as she could do- we added those pushups to the total push-ups.”

Gabby Sharer, senior, said it was exciting, “At games people got so excited we were doing pushups, we got the crowd more involved and made the football season more enjoyable.

People would come up and ask how many pushups we did.”

She said it was an enjoyable way to raise money, “We had some really generous people get super involved.”

The team plans to use funds for new uniforms and mats.
