What does a School Counselor Do?

Individual Counseling

  • Students can be referred for individual counseling services by a parent/guardian, staff member, or themselves. Individual counseling in the school setting is solution-focused and short term in nature.

Classroom Guidance

  • I teach lessons to all 5th and 6th graders. These lessons are designed to address certain developmental issues and areas of concern voiced by the students or in collaboration with teachers.

Crisis Intervention/Prevention

  • The counselor provides support and assistance to students and families as they navigate crisis and emergency situations.

Group Counseling

  • Based on students, school, and community needs, the counselor will facilitate various academic, social, and emotional small groups throughout the school year.
