25 were inducted into the Sherrard chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) this evening in a ceremony held at Camden Centre in Milan.

"As my first year involved as one of the NHS advisers, I am happy to report that this is a great group of students to work with. They plan and execute like adults and are a joy to be around. I'm very proud of them!" said Candace Gagliardo, Sherrard high school English teacher and NHS advisor.

2018 Sherrard Alumni, Audrey Epperly was the guest speaker. She discussed the importance of a growth mindset and treating failure as an opportunity.

The NHS pledge guides members to uphold scholarship, service, leadership, and character - and represent the Sherrard School District honorably.

Throughout the past year, the Sherrard NHS Chapter has been actively engaged in various initiatives:

Volunteering:

• Served community meals on Wonderful Wednesdays
• Ran a hunder drive
• Ran and contributed to the Tiger Closet
• Assisted at elementary schools with events like pumpkin painting and book fairs

Community Engagement:

• Organized the welcome table (and assisted) for the Veterans Day assembly
• Collected canned goods during Halloween for those in need
• Volunteered at the Sherrard Pumpkin Fest

Leadership Development:

• Mentored incoming students as orientation leaders
• Helped with post-prom bingo events

Service to Environment and Education

• Contributed to environmental projects like the Pollinator Project
• Tutored students at both the high school and junior high levels
• Raised funds through activities like the Viola Cake Walk
• Provided support as office and education aides
